NORTH ENGLAND

In England's North Country you'll find the scenic splendour of lakes and mountains, dramatic coastlines and glorious National Parks combined with cities rich in history, attractions and culture.

CHESTER

Compact, beautiful and the most complete walled city in Britain, Chester is the historic gem of north-west Britain. This 2,000 year old city is the gateway to the coast and castles of Wales.

Visiting Chester is like taking a magical journey back in time with so much of the past in the streets and buildings. The impressive Roman walls encircle a rich legacy of architectural splendours, including the unique two-tier galleries of shops dating from the Middle Ages which in turn line the streets laid out by a Roman engineer.

YORK

York is one of the most beautiful cities in Britain and is unique in having evidence of Roman, Saxon and Viking occupation. The medieval character of the city is best seen in the narrow streets popularly know as 'The Shambles'.

Its greatest jewel, however, is the medieval cathedral, the largest in England and some would say the most beautiful.

The city boasts three outstanding museums: - a Viking village; the Castle Museum housing rooms and shops furnished in Jacobean, Georgian and Victorian styles; and the Railway Museum with engines spanning 150 years of railway history.
